Why Guerrilla Games should remaster Killzone 3 Multiplayer for PlayStation 4.

I wanted to write how, as a devout fan of the Killzone series, I felt Killzone: Shadow Fall was a disappointment and a mis-step for Guerrilla. To a lesser extent its single player, but after investing 1000 hours into Killzone 2 and 3, its multiplayer simply does not feel like a Killzone game, and it has left a void in my gaming life.

What I intend to do, is state how it makes sense for Guerrilla Games to at least remaster their Killzone 3 multiplayer package and release it for the PS4.

Killzone 3 _ Falando sobre o multiplayer

Drawing inspiration from 343 industries, and producing a Halo: Master Chief Collection style package with the full games of Killzone 2 and 3 would be amazing for the fans – but that is probably wishing for too much, because Guerrilla are heavily invested in the development of their new IP at the moment.

But even a multiplayer package that included the MP from Killzone’s 2 and 3 would unite ALL the fans and make everyone happy. Now, wouldn’t this solve a problem for Guerrilla? Because you just have to read various forums down the years, and it’s evident the studio is always trying to please the fans, yet there are always those people who end up disgruntled. Problem solved!

The multiplayer package Guerrilla released on PS3 via PSN was a brilliant idea and reinvigorated the player base. Now imagine if they got it running at 1080p and 60fps on the PS4. Bearing in mind it’s still a handsome game on the PS3…

Access to the Killzone 3 Multiplayer was initially free on PS3; you could play it until you reached a level cap, and then if you wanted to continue playing, you had to buy it for £14.99. That was a model that would actually suit the PS4 right now. And factoring in the healthy install base that the PS4 is enjoying, what I’m basically saying to Guerrilla Games is that here is an opportunity to make money…

Killzone 3 houses some stunning multiplayer maps that have yet to be bettered, and it has a terrific mode called Operations, which was a charming innovation by Guerrilla. It was a mode that was incredibly popular with players, and led us to believe it would be expanded upon in Shadow Fall. It wasn’t.

Killzone 3 still possesses so much that is great. Whether it’s the terrific audio, or the fact you can set up a party of up to 8 friends and head into matchmaking, the fact many of its maps have ‘events’ which increase the spectacle of the game mid-match, the fact that the best of 7 rounds ‘warzone’ game mode in Killzone 2 and 3 remains unique and unrivalled, or the fact that Killzone 3 remains one of the greatest class-based multiplayer shooters in existence…

What I am saying is; it would be a joy to see a new audience of PS4 users get to experience a great game they may have missed out on. At a time when the PS4 is lacking a truly great exclusive multiplayer shooter (that exclusive Destiny content *does not* count).

I know at least 20 people on my PSN friends list who used to play Killzone 3 multiplayer on a regular basis for the best part of 3 years. Genuinely. Killzone 3 is now 4 years old. Those people are now PS4 owners, like myself, but are nowhere to be seen when it comes to playing Shadow Fall. Shouldn’t Guerrilla be asking themselves (or us) why?

I know what my friends want. They want the same thing I do. We are in the process of seeing other games getting the remastered/definitive edition treatment – games you wouldn’t really consider classics. Killzone 2 and 3 were landmark titles for the PS3, and they remain two of the finest shooters to grace PlayStation over the past 20 years.

If the head honchos in Amsterdam could get a little team together and mess around with a few PS4 dev kits… If Naughty Dog can get The Last of Us running on PS4, and 343 industries can get Halo 4 running on Xbox One… I’m sure with your Dutch programming prowess you could get KZ3 running on PS4…

So come on Guerrilla, please… #4ThePlayers?

I agree with 100% of your assertion. KZ3 just had\has that something special that sets it apart. I support each and every gamer in having their own favorite- for me it is still #3 , Shadowfall was somewhat of a letdown.

I fully support this and have been pushing this idea as hard as possible. The release of Metro Redux with both 2033 and Last Light allowed gamers to immerse themselves in 2 games for the price of one with all the extra content. With a release of a coupled bundle of KZ2 and KZ3 it would allow PlayStation owners a real chance to claim and boast about a true exclusive. Map packs can always be bought or if preordered can get one for free. Great idea to push for this. Thanks!

I agree 100% I am a big time gamer, and I work in the game industry as a Key Holder at Game Stop. I would love to see a Kill Zone trilogy remaster, with all 3 games. The first reason I would love this, is because Kill Zone Shadow Fall sucked, it did have an interesting story but flat out sucked. Now Kill Zone is one of the most famous exclusive games on the PlayStation. So Sony PlayStation, please remaster this game. I understand the economy is bad and releasing anything is a major risk if it does not sell. But fans will buy this by the millions in all countrys, so it makes sense. Again Sony please remaster Kill Zone, not just one game, remaster all.

Absolutely fantastic, we want KZ3 & KZ2 back with working online! It would be a + for everyone: GG would get some profit, fans would be happy, and everything with little effort for GG!

Killzone 3 was a wonderful game, final fantasy 7was a wonderful game, god of war 1 and 2 on ps2 was a wonderful game. Just because it was good at those shooter does not mean that they should remaster everything. killzone shadowfall is a wonderful game. It did have bad main story but the multiplayer was fun. It was hectic. The extended warzone was the best mode for me. 9 rotating modes consisting of 5 mins of mayhem of objectives from older kz games. The only thing they altered is instead of having to capture spawn points, now you can put a spawn becaon down for urself which makes it easier for people to spawn at anywhere in the map and you could have so much down. So you require much skill in terms of strategic positioning and it takes a long time to master it. I am pretty sure one of your reasons not liking was that you were not able to be good on it and were tilted by people who killed you so much even they were new to the game , while killzone 3 was not very noob friendly. I feel sorry you could not understand the multiplayer in this game. It was the best of what guerrela did all last 10 years with killzone.

I can guarantee if Killzone 2 or 3 or both were remastered then they’d have a bigger player-base than Shadow Fall ever had. Go figure.
